Read 1 Samuel 17:38–50.

1. What does David’s choice for battle attire reveal about his character and his faith in God?

[Your Response Here]

2. Goliath offered David some smack talk on the battlefield, and David’s response reveals his heart for God. What did David say to Goliath about his readiness to fight?

[Your Response Here]

3. Based on 1 Samuel 17:47, who did David believe determined the outcome of the battle?

[Your Response Here]

4. According to 1 Samuel 17:50, David prevailed “without a sword in his hand.” Why is this detail so significant to this story and to David’s future as king?

[Your Response Here]

When you are facing a giant, your faith has to be in God. David’s stand against Goliath was not just bold and brave; it was an act of faith. The same God that took care of David while he was a shepherd would carry him through his fight with Goliath. When we take time to consider all the ways God has seen us through our trials in life, our faith grows and helps us get past just seeing the hard and moving to where it becomes the hard good.

5. In what ways has God rescued you in the past?

[Your Response Here]

Read Ephesians 6:10–17.

6. Which part of God’s armor do you need most and why?

[Your Response Here]

Put pen to paper and declare how you will move past your past and close the distance between your life now and the life God has in store for you.

I will no longer _______________________________.

I will _______________________________.

Because God has _______________________________.

And God _______________________________.
